Recover deleted files on Windows

Recover deleted files

What happens when you delete a file in Windows and why it is possible to recover deleted files
When you select files and press the Delete button, 'deleted' files are not removed from your computer forever. In most cases the files are sent to the Recycle Bin that helps you avoid accidental deleting - you can choose to recover deleted files if they have been deleted by mistake.
If you found deleted files in the Recycle Bin, you can recover them with one click. And the best thing - you don't need any special software.

But in some situations you may need to completely delete files so it is not possible to get them back. Will it be enough to empty the Recycle Bin or delete files bypassing the Recycle Bin? When a file is deleted from the Recycle Bin, or if the Recycle Bin is bypassed, the file can no longer be recovered by Windows but the content of the file still remains on the drive, until it is overwritten with another file. In fact, Windows marks the file name in the MFT as 'deleted' and its space is marked as free so it could be used to write new data. Permanent deleting requires the use of a special tool to completely overwrite deleted data.

How to recover files

The data recovery tool finds data that still exists on the hard drive or removable drive but which currently cannot be located by the operating system. But you should keep in mind that chances to recover deleted files depend on the time after deleting - the longer you leave deleted files unrecovered the more chances that this space will be overwritten with other data and you will not be able to recover deleted files.

Recover files software makes it easy to recover accidentally deleted files from hard drives and removable drives. It helps you to recover deleted files after using the Windows 'Delete' option, emptying the Recycle Bin or using Shift+Delete or some other delete actions that bypass the Recycle Bin.
You can use recover deleted files software to recover files on hard drives, removable drives, USB drives, memory sticks, flash memory cards, picture cards, etc.

With recover deleted files software you can:
› recover files deleted with or without the Recycle Bin, using the Shift+Delete combination or through the 'Delete' options in different programs
› recover deleted files on different file systems
› recover deleted files on hard drives, flash drives, USB drives, and other removable storage devices.

How to increase the chances of file recovery

As Windows doesn't immediately overwrite the space of deleted files, you have some time to recover them. But every computer activity decreases the chances to recover deleted files as the contents of deleted files could be partially or completely overwritten with other data. It is very important to stop writing data to the drive where the deleted files are located since every new file (even small) may overwrite the deleted files you need to recover.
Also the chances of recovery depend on the hard drive's free space - the less free space you have, the sooner your deleted files will be overwritten.
In case you need to recover files on the system drive, you should immediately stop using the computer in any way to avoid computer activities that may directly or indirectly write new data on the system drive and cause overwriting the deleted data. You should close all running programs (including programs running in the background), disconnect the computer from the Internet or a LAN, avoid installing new programs (including recover deleted files software) on any drive on the computer as in this case the system disk will be used indirectly

Do not save recovered files to the drive that contains the files you want to recover as it could overwrite the space holding the data you need to recover. You should select a different drive to save the recovered files (it could be an external drive, flash drive, etc).
